For this magnetic MG cylinder with 40 mm bore, the 2022 sensor selection table lists CMSG and DMSG with the round-cylinder mounting band F-MQS40. The band matches the stainless steel cylinder body; do not substitute a tie-rod bracket or a different bore size. Sensors and bands are selected separately and are not implied by the S piston-magnet code.
Fit the sensor into the band holder, wrap and fasten the band around the cylinder, move it to the required detection position, then tighten the sensor and band fasteners. Select the complete sensor order code to match the required supply voltage, output circuit, wiring and cable length; CMSG/DMSG here identify compatible sensor profiles.

For CMSG reed options, maximum limits are 100 mA, 10 W and 200 Hz, with no internal consumption or leakage. Standard/A05 versions have a maximum 2.5 V drop at 100 mA DC. H versions have no residual voltage or indicator LED.
Two-wire DMSG/EMSG operate at 2.5–100 mA, up to 2.8 W and 1,000 Hz. Maximum consumption is 3 mA, residual voltage 3.5 V and leakage current 0.06 mA.
NPN/PNP DMSG outputs are rated to 30 V / 200 mA, 6 W and 1,000 Hz. Maximum consumption is 5 mA, residual voltage 0.7 V and leakage current 0.01 mA.
Sensor direct-lead endings 020/030/050/100 mean 2/3/5/10 m. M08/M12 mean M8/M12 male connectors with 0.5 m leads; M08010/M08020/M08030 and M12010/M12020/M12030 have 1/2/3 m leads. Female-cable endings 020/030/050/100 mean 2/3/5/10 m. Lead length is independent of cylinder stroke.
Match the female cable to the male connector size and wire count; direct-lead sensors need no mating cable. B pinout is 1 brown (+), 4 blue (−), 3 unused; C is 1 brown (+), 3 blue (−), 4 black output. Verify the cable’s electrical, temperature and environmental ratings.
A05 is flex-resistant robotics cable; A06 is oil-resistant flex cable. Both have a recommended minimum bend radius of 19 mm and use direct leads only, without NPN/PNP, M8/M12 or W options; A05-CMSG also excludes H. W denotes waterproof: DMSG-W is direct-lead only; listed EMSG-W also offers connectors. Check connector sealing separately.
Ordinary, W, A05 and A06 sensors operate at −10 to +70°C; CMSG-H at −10 to +125°C. The cylinder remains limited to +70°C: use the common operating range. Ordinary/H/A05 are IP64; W/A06 are IP68. These are sensor ratings, not cylinder, connector or assembly ratings.
Observe both current and load-capacity limits; controller inputs must tolerate the residual voltage and leakage. Reed, two-wire electronic, NPN and PNP circuits are not interchangeable. CMS has no protection circuit; DMS/EMS include reverse-polarity and surge protection. Insulate and complete wiring before energizing; separate it from power/high-voltage wiring.
Tighten sensor screws to 0.15–0.20 N·m, never above 0.25 N·m; band and cylinder fasteners need their own specifications. Set detection at the actuation-range centre. Avoid impact, cable tension and flexing caused by motion; inspect fixings, cables and indication periodically.
Keep non-waterproof sensors dry; avoid prolonged immersion even with waterproof types. Verify oil/chemical compatibility. Avoid explosive atmospheres, aggressive chemicals, rapid temperature changes, welding interference and magnetic debris. Protect industry cables against unsuitable heat, dust, water and oil, and shield oil-resistant versions from weld spatter.
Cylinder-port connection matching
Match each 1/8 NPT cylinder port with an NPT fitting and the exact metric tube OD used in the circuit. PT and G threads do not mate directly with NPT, and similarly sized inch tubing is not interchangeable with the metric tubing in the circuit reference in this description.
If you choose an inch-tube circuit instead of the metric reference, order these NPT1/8 male options separately. Use either a connector or a controller at each port. Match the listed inch OD along the branch and at both tube ends; do not fit metric tubing to these inch sockets.
-
Straight connection: No speed adjustment
NPC5/32-1/8 (5/32 in), NPC1/4-1/8 (1/4 in), NPC5/16-1/8 (5/16 in), NPC3/8-1/8 (3/8 in)
-
Cylinder-port meter-out control: Speed adjustment
NPTL5/32-1/8A (5/32 in), NPTL1/4-1/8A (1/4 in), NPTL5/16-1/8A (5/16 in)
Type A restricts flow from the cylinder port to the tube; reverse flow is free. Maximum knob-rotation torque is 0.08 N·m, not thread-tightening torque.
Use soft nylon or polyurethane tubing. Fitting limits are 0–1 MPa and −20 to +70°C; stay within every connected part’s limits. Check tube insertion, thread sealing and clearance.
Weight Reference
729 g — estimated configuration weight. Matched to the printed series, bore, stroke, cover and magnetic-option weight reference. The selected CB mount adds an approximate 131 g based on its catalog plate envelope and steel density; holes and supplied fasteners are not individually weighed. Catalog weights and estimates are for reference only; actual product weight prevails.
Force Reference
Calculated theoretical force at 0.5 MPa: extension 628.0 N; retraction 527.5 N, using bore 40 mm and rod diameter 16 mm. This pressure × effective-area calculation excludes friction, acceleration and safety/load factors; it is not a guaranteed usable load. Check the actual operating pressure and mechanism load.

Series Ordering Reference
Standard strokes listed for this bore and operating variant: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, 80, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 250, 300 mm. These are alternative order selections; they are not additional travel available from the current cylinder.
The catalog separately lists a long-stroke construction range of 301–500 mm. It is distinct from the standard-stroke list above; use the long-stroke dimensions and weights for that range. The separately printed maximum and permissible strokes are 500 and 800 mm respectively.
Select the operating variant, bore, stroke, magnetic option, rear-cover form, mounting accessory and pipe-thread option from the corresponding ordering chart. Do not transfer rear-cover or mount choices between single-rod, double-rod and adjustable-stroke versions without checking their dedicated row.
Selection, Installation and Use
- Select the bore and operating pressure from the required force, then check the stroke, moving load, speed, cushioning and mounting method for the mechanism.
- Flush the air lines before connection. Keep sealing tape or sealant clear of the first 1–2 thread turns and prevent water, particles or corrosive gases entering the cylinder.
- Keep the rod axis aligned with the load. Provide guides or supports where needed; avoid direct side loading and twisting of an unguided piston rod.
- Start speed adjustment with the flow-control valve closed and open it gradually. Meter-out control is the usual reference circuit; verify the actual single-acting or double-acting circuit.
- Factory-prelubricated cylinders can be used without additional lubrication. If a lubricator is used, the general instructions specify additive-free ISO VG32 turbine oil and continued lubrication.
- Isolate the air supply and exhaust residual pressure before servicing. Secure retained loads and prevent unexpected movement on restart. Protect against freezing, corrosion and strong external magnetic fields where magnetic sensing is used.
Circuit-selection reference at a theoretical 500 mm/s: for 40 mm bore the general catalog lists effective area 3.3 mm², valve examples 5V11006 / 5V12006, pneumatic-pilot alternatives 4A11006 / 4A12006, flow control PTL01, silencer BSL01, and tubing 8 mm OD × 5 mm ID. These are selection examples, not included components or a guaranteed installed speed; check actual port/thread adapters, pressure loss, tube length and load.
