AirTAC SU Discontinued: SAU Replacement, Dimensions and Accessories

SU is discontinued, and SU orders are supplied as SAU. Check replacement dimensions, mounting details, sensors and accessories before installation.

SU has been discontinued. Orders placed for SU cylinders in our store are supplied as SAU. Match the complete ordered specification: bore, stroke, magnetic piston, mounting, seal material and port thread. Use the supplied SAU drawing and accessory selection to plan the installation.

This guide compares the discontinued SU cylinder with its SAU replacement. Matching bore and stroke does not, by itself, establish that every mounting detail, sensor or accessory can be reused.

SU and SAU: what remains similar?

The basic SU and SAU cylinders are double acting with one piston rod. Both use an aluminium profile barrel without external tie rods and adjustable pneumatic cushioning. Keep the complete SU model when identifying the original order; the product supplied for that order is SAU.

The historical SU catalogue helps identify the original cylinder and its accessories. For the replacement's dimensions, sensors and installation, use the SAU catalogue and the drawing for the actual supplied configuration.

Check dimensions before reusing the mounting

Several basic axial dimensions agree at the same bore, but not every detail is identical. For example, at 40 mm bore, both basic-cylinder drawings give A = 142 mm and an axial dimension of A + stroke. A 100 mm stroke therefore gives a drawing dimension of 242 mm.

The SU drawing without TC shows mounting thread K = M6 × 1.0 with depth KA = 9.5 mm. The SAU drawing shows the same thread size with KA = 16 mm. Check screw length and engagement against the supplied drawing; the same thread designation does not make the old screw arrangement automatically suitable.

Compare the mounting pattern, rod-end thread, body dimensions and sensor position with the machine. Allow clearance for full rod movement, brackets, rod-end joints, fittings and sensors. A catalogue drawing dimension is not the complete installed envelope.

Select sensors for the supplied SAU cylinder

The historical SU accessory table lists CS1-B/DS1-B, CS1-F/DS1-F and CS1-U/DS1-U sensor families, including bore-specific variants. The SAU accessory selection lists CMSG, DMSG and EMSG for its sensor grooves. A legacy SU sensor reference does not establish compatibility with the supplied SAU.

Magnetic position sensing requires the cylinder's magnetic-piston option. Adding an external sensor to a non-magnetic cylinder does not create that function. Select the complete SAU-compatible sensor model for the required electrical output, voltage, cable length and connector; a family name alone is not a complete order code.

Choose mounting brackets and rod-end joints separately

The standard single-rod SAU permits the basic mounting configuration, LB foot brackets, FA/FB front or rear flanges, and CA/CB rear mounts. Check the permitted configuration and physical accessory code for the actual bore.

For a 40 mm bore example, F-SC40LB is the LB bracket and F-SC40FA is the flange accessory. The FA/FB positions share the listed flange part code; select its intended mounting position rather than treating the code as a universal installation approval.

The 40 mm rod-end options are F-M12X125I, F-M12X125Y, F-M12X125F and F-M12X125U. These are alternative joint types for different load and alignment requirements. Confirm the selected joint, load capacity and package contents; the listed options are not automatically all included.

Existing SU trunnion installations need a separate mounting check

The old SU catalogue lists TC/TCM1 arrangements. Its TC note describes a trunnion installed before factory shipment; it cannot simply be added directly to a standard barrel later. The SAU catalogue used here does not establish the same TC/TCM1 arrangement. Confirm the actual supplied mounting solution before replacing an SU trunnion installation. Do not assume the original trunnion assembly transfers unchanged.

Confirm operating and installation requirements

  • Complete specification: retain the original SU model and match the required bore, nominal stroke, magnetic option, mounting, seal and port thread to the supplied SAU configuration.
  • Stroke and space: check the catalogue's maximum and allowable stroke separately, plus the ordered tolerance and full movement clearance. Unlisted tolerances must be confirmed.
  • Port threads: select PT, G or NPT at the correct port size. Match each fitting to the actual thread standard and tubing size.
  • Seals and environment: select TPU, NBR or fluororubber as specified for the configuration. Check the cylinder's ordered temperature range and the separate limits of sensors, cables, tubing and other connected components.
  • Force and load: a single-rod cylinder has different effective areas for extension and retraction. Use the correct area and actual pressure, allowing for friction, backpressure, acceleration and application margin. Theoretical force is not a safe-load or speed guarantee.
  • Accessories and installation: verify the actual bracket or joint, screw engagement, alignment, sensor clearance and what is included in the supplied package.
